12 Days of Christmas

Every year for the past several years during our Christmas celebration with mom's side of the family we sing "The Twelve Days of Christmas". I'm not really sure how or why this tradition started... but it did and now it just wouldn't be the same without it. We each get at least one day and some of us two days that we are responsible for singing as best we can. We used to have a hard time remembering what each day was until we got smart and listed them out ahead of time. I found a list of the 12 Days of Christmas and what they may represents Biblically and thought I'd share it.

1. A partridge in a pear tree = Jesus and his death on the cross
2. two turtle doves = old and new testaments
3. three french hens = the Trinity
4. four calling birds = the four gospels
5. five golden rings = first five books of the old testament giving the history of man's fall from grace
6. six geese a-laying = six days of creation
7. seven swans a-swimming = the seven gifts of the holy spirit
8. eight maids a-milking = the eight beatitudes (Mathew 5:3-10)
9. nine ladies dancing = fruit of the Spirit (Galations 5:22)
10. ten lords a-leaping = ten commandments
11. eleven pipers piping = the eleven faithful disciples
12. twelve drummers drumming = twelve points of the apostles creed (which I'm not totally familiar with)

This fun set of "12 Days of Christmas" ornaments can be found here.
