Thanksgiving Weekend Part 2

Shopping Day...

I remember a time when mom and I would say there is nothing worth getting up before daylight and fighting crowds to shop for. One year we decided to head to Wal-Mart to see what the "blitz" was all about. We didn't get up too early, but we were still there early with no real purpose. It was a blast!! We loved seeing what other people had and saying "oh, that looks good" and then trying to find it only to find out we got the last one. This just added to the excitement. It has now become a tradition, the one day a year I willingly get up at 3:30 or 4:00 in the morning just to go shopping.

This year we didn't really see anything that we were just dying to have and were willing to wait in massively long lines in the cold to get so we decided to start at Belk's where they were giving gift cards ($5-$5000) to the first 250 people through the doors. They opened at 5am and mom picked me up at 4:30. We arrived in the parking lot of the mall at ten til 5 and actually got a decent parking place and were able to get into the vestibule so we didn't have to wait in the cold. The store opened at 5 and we all herded into the store single file (like a herd of cattle trying to fit through the doors as one lady pointed out and mom being the comedian that she is at 5 in the morning added the "mooing" sound effects for all to enjoy) to get our gift cards. Both mom and I's ended up being the $5 ones, but it was better than nothing and we achieved our goal of being one of the first 250.

This was the parking lot a little later in the morning...

By the time we met Zach and Melanie for lunch/breakfast we had been to:
  • Belk
  • Old Navy
  • JC Penny
  • Bath and Body Works
  • Chic-fil-A for cokes, fruit cup, and brownie because they were not serving breakfast at 6am due to the high volumes of people, this still does not make any sense to me
  • Kirklands
  • Belk
  • Target (for the bathrooms)
  • LifeWay
  • Best Buy where I lost an earring and saw the lady in front of us literally shop her way through the checkout line (she had the add with her and each stop along the way she asked a nearby associate if they anymore of an item and if they did she would go and get it while we watched her stuff, including her purse. By the time she got to the checkout she probably had $5oo worth of stuff in her cart.)
  • Linens and Things - mom and I enjoyed the sample massage chairs for about 15 minutes...they were wonderful!!
  • Wal-Mart
  • Cracker Barrell - didn't stay here since the wait was over an hour
  • IHOP - wait was less than 30 minutes and Zach and Melanie met us
  • Kohl's - at noon there was still over a 2 hour wait in the check-out line (nothing worth that wait)
Showing off our treasures...

All of this and we were back to mom's by 12:30. By 2:00 I was convinced it should be bedtime.

This is what we came home too...

Dad and Ben watching the Ole Miss game on the smallest tv we have in our house. We also have those comfortable things that people sit on... couches and chairs and yet here they were.

Oh, and Zach's big shopping trip for the day was to the Apple Store in Green Hills for our new Mac Book Pro.

A very successful day.
