Election Day

Last week when I early voted, I almost teared up as I was standing in line. I tend to get a little emotional about seemingly random things, so this should not be too big of a surprise...particularly to my husband. But, as I stood there in the nice library in a not-too-terribly long line, I couldn't help but be so very grateful for the simple privilege of getting to vote.

A lot of people made a lot of sacrifices for me, a woman in my twenties, to get to have some say in who governs our country. And to do so with no fear. There are so many people around the world who are not so blessed.

Regardless of how this election turns out, there are a few things I am certain of:
  1. I am proud to be an American citizen. I am grateful for sacrifices made so that I can live the life of freedom I enjoy. I love this country, problems and all.
  2. There are some really good people in our country. For example, a nurse at the hospital I work for got an order for a patient (who really wanted to vote and because of a technicality could not do so absentee) to be allowed to leave the hospital and be taken to the polls to vote. The nurse took the patient to the polls, after her work day, and this gentleman was able to vote.
  3. No matter who wins, I serve a God who is not surprised by the outcome. He knows the future and has a plan.
  4. I believe with all that I am that He is in control. He alone is sovereign.
  5. I cling to this verse..."In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world" John 16:33
  6. I really enjoyed this post today.
