Thanksgiving 2008

I knew that starting a new job in the middle of the year would put me at pretty high risk of having to work during the holidays, but when I found out they had me working both Thanksgiving and Christmas weekends I was pretty upset. When my boss realized this she worked to rearrange the schedule so I could have at least of them off. I was soooo grateful!! And to be honest, I was having the hardest time thinking I wouldn't get to go shopping with mom the day after Thanksgiving!

God is so faithful! And we were able to spend time with both our families at Thanksgiving and mom and I were able to keep our shopping trip!

Wednesday Night: Melanie came down and Jessica and Jesse came over to our house for a spaghetti dinner. And chocolate turtle cake for desert! I was quite pleased with how the cake turned out!

Thursday: Watched the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and I made my very first coffee cake. It turned out perfect (as perfect as it can be without mom's special pans)! We got packed and dressed and headed to Granny June's for a yummy lunch with Zach's family.

After lunch we hit the road to Clarksville. We made it there with a couple hours to spare before we had a delicious dinner with my family including GK, Aunt Cathie and Uncle Tim, and Zach's mom and Charley. It was such a blessing to get to be with most of our families in one day.

Friday: Mom and I got up VERY EARLY for our shopping trip. Even with the crowds and long lines we had a blast! In fact, I'm pretty sure the crowds are part of the fun of it! This year we just went to Wal-Mart and the Mall but found a lot of good deals and got pretty much everything we were looking for. I think our best find of the day were the $8 puffy jackets from WM! They are so cute! And I cherished our conversations over a much needed caffeine and food bread at the deli in the mall.

By 11 we headed home, feeling like it should be 8pm. We made it home just in time to catch the beginning of the Ole Miss/State game. While I love football... I just couldn't make it through the whole game without taking a nap! I was exhausted.

Friday evening the girls, mom, Aunt Cathie, GK, and I, drove to Nashville to se the Rockettes at the Opry House. GK has always wanted to see them and never had the chance, so mom decided this would be a fun opportunity for us to have some girl time! We had such a good time despite the crazy traffic and a little glitch with our seats. I'm still not sure what my favorite scene was, but I know that GK's favorite was the nativity scene at the end. Mom says her face was priceless.

Saturday: GK and them went home and I headed over to Lynz's for a little "Abby" fix. The afternoon and evening was spent relaxing and watching the UT game.

Sunday: Church and then the looooong drive home in Thanksgiving traffic. When the interstate turned into a parking lot we got off and let the GPS guide us home. It got us there alright, it just took us on some crazy curvy roads and even a couple gravel roads.

What a wonderful holiday weekend... I have so very much to be thankful for!
