Lyndsay and I met in 6th grade at Richview Middle School. Lindsey Hollis introduced us and since she was leaving to go to another school the next year, that left Lynz and I. We've been inseparable ever since. We had the same classes all through middle school and many of the same classes in high school. We sang in choir together, played tennis together, and did most everything else together. We used to spend the night at each other's house practically every weekend. I remember her mom making us chocolate-chip pancakes on Saturdays and thinking that was the coolest thing!! Anyway, she and I knew each other so well that we knew what the other was thinking before it was even a thought.
We haven't actually lived in the same city for the past 7 years, and while it isn't as easy as it was when we were in high school, we have managed to stay best friends. Distance makes it harder, but when you're this kind of friends it really doesn't matter how far apart you are. You just know.
Two years ago Lyndsay was very pregnant with her first baby. The baby was due sometime around Labor Day weekend and I told Lyndsay to tell the baby that Friday of Labor Day weekend would work out great for me. I was in grad school at UT and classes were already back in session, but I would be able to come home for the weekend and see the baby. As of Thursday that week, no real change. My mom had said on Thursday "she's going to have that baby tomorrow, I just know it" and I had said "yeah right". Well, Friday morning when I got out of class I had a message on my cell phone from Lyndsay's mom saying they were in the hospital and she was in labor. I called and they said it would probably be awhile.
I rushed home and packed, ate lunch with Zach and his dad, and then got on the road to Clarksville. Ms. Patty called when I was about half-way home and said that Kyleigh Rae had just been born. This was probably a good thing, because I didn't have to rush anymore. When I got to Clarksville, I went straight to the hospital to meet my best friend's little girl. It actually was kind of nice that I got there later, because most of her family had already left for a while and it was kind of quiet. Chad (Lynz's husband) had her when I came in and almost immediately gave her to me. She is the youngest baby I have ever held, only a few hours old. She was beautiful and I got chills when I held her. I was able to spend most of the weekend with Lynz and Kyleigh. It was great! I remember asking Lynz if it hurt, and she told me "just wait".
I have loved watching Lynz be a mom over these past two years. She's a great mom! And one day, that too will be something we share together.... motherhood. For now, I enjoy getting to see her go through all the baby stages with Kyleigh. Kyleigh turns two today and tomorrow she is having a princess birthday party. She loves Cinderella!! A girl after my own heart.

I have a childhood best friend that I don't see very often , but when we talk on the phone or see one another it's always the same as it was years ago.
