It's not 1957

There are times when I really love my job. I love the patients that I work with and the fun things that they say. Many of my patients are, at least on some level, confused. They are not oriented to where they are, what day it is, or why they are in the hospital. Part of my job is to review orientation information with my patients.

Today I asked a patient if he knew what year it was. His answer was "57". I said "1957". To which he shook his head in agreement. I shook my head and said "No. It's not 1957. It is actually 2008." His jaw dropped open and his eyes got really big. He genuinely couldn't believe it. "Are you sure?", he said. To which I said "Yes. I'm pretty sure." He still didn't believe me.

I wanted to tell him that if it were 1957 I would not be the one asking him questions, since my parents were not born until 1958.

Fun times.
